Abstract:

This study was design to formulate and pharmaceutically evaluate a topical skin care cream (W/o) of coleus extract versus its vehicle (Base) as control which will be explored for various skin functional parameters in proceeding paper. Base containing no extract and a formulation containing 2.5% concentrated extract of coleus was devoloped by entrapping in the inner aqueous phase of W/o emulsion. Lemon oil was incorporated to improve the colour .Both the base and formulation were stored at 80c+ 10c amd 400c= with 75% RH (in incubator) for a period of 4 weeks to predict their stability. The evaluation parameters consisted of colour, smell type of emulsion, phase separation, elecrtical conductivity, cenrtifugation, liquefaction and PH. The expected organoleptic stability of creams was achiveed from 4 weeks study period. Odour was disappeared with the passage of time due to volatilzation of lemon oil. All the results derived from this study showed goodstability over the 4 week study period.oru investigation have been proved to bepromising interms of future podential applications of coleus extract as skin care products, cosmetic and /or pharmaceutical preprating owing to its properties

Key words: coleus, Emulsion, stability.
